About the Hungary
All highways and expressways in Hungary that are marked with an “M” are toll roads and require a valid vignette.
Hungary e-vignettes (e-Matrica) cannot be purchased at checkpoints or toll stations and must be ordered online.
All cars, motorhomes, motorbikes and vans are required to have a valid vignette to travel on any toll roads in Hungary. The Hungary vignette is linked directly to your vehicle’s license plate.
You don’t need to display any physical document or sticker on your vehicle. The digital registration linked to your license plate is checked automatically by cameras.
Hungary e-Vignette Vehicle Category Guide
The cost of the vignette depends on your vehicle category.
D1 – Passenger cars up to 3.5 tonnes, maximum of 7 seats in total, and a trailer towed by it, provided the vehicle registration document shows M1.
D1M – Motorcycles
D2 – All vehicles that do not belong to another category and vehicles that do not need to pay separate tolls under different laws. If the vehicle registration document shows N1, the vehicle requires a D2 vignette, regardless of seating capacity. Vehicles with 8 or more seats require a D2 vignette. This includes vans, lorries and motorhomes.
U – Trailers towed by a D2 category vehicle
- Purchase a vignette using the trailer registration number – in this case the trailer can be used with any D2 vehicle but a separate road use authorisation must be purchased for the towing vehicle, OR
- Purchase a vignette using the the registration number of the towing vehicle using category D2, in which case a separate road use authorisation does not need to be purchased for the trailer
Validity
An e-vignette purchased here is valid from the time you receive a confirmation email stating that your e-vignette is valid.
