About the Romania vignette (Rovinieta)
The Romania vignette (Rovinieta) is mandatory for all vehicles (excluding motorcycles) traveling on motorways in Romania.
The e-vignette is electronically linked to your vehicle’s license plate number, and unlike the physical sticker does not need to be affixed to your windshield. This system allows you to purchase your vignette online from anywhere in the world and begin using Romanian toll motorways immediately upon confirmation of registration.
You can order the official Romania vignette on our site. Once successfully registered you will receive an email confirmation.

Tips for driving in Romania
Drive on the right and overtake on the left. You must use dipped headlights or daytime running lights outside built‑up areas during the day and at night, and always follow the posted limits: generally 50 km/h in built‑up areas, 90–100 km/h on rural roads, and up to 130 km/h on motorways where signed.
There is a strict zero‑tolerance policy on drink‑driving for all drivers (legal blood alcohol limit 0.0‰). Using a mobile phone while driving is only allowed with a proper hands‑free system, and seat belts are compulsory for all occupants of the vehicle.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Romania e-vignette?
The Romania e‑vignette (Rovinieta) is a digital road toll that has replaced traditional paper stickers and is mandatory for most motor vehicles (excluding motorcycles in practice) on Romania’s motorways and national roads outside built‑up areas. Instead of a physical sticker, your licence plate number is registered in the national toll database, and fixed cameras, mobile checks and police controls verify that your vehicle has a valid vignette for the chosen period.
When you buy a Romania e‑vignette, you select your vehicle category and validity (for example 1 day for heavier vehicles, or 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 12 months for cars and light vehicles), and during that period you can use all toll‑liable motorway and national road sections in Romania where the vignette requirement applies.
Why do you need a Romania vignette?
Driving on Romanian toll roads without a valid vignette is illegal and can result in substantial fines, which may be issued automatically through camera checks or during roadside inspections.
All motor vehicles using Romania’s national roads and motorways must register for a valid vignette, with motorcycles usually exempt but cars, vans, motorhomes and commercial vehicles all required to hold a toll pass.
Who needs a Romania vignette?
All motor vehicles with at least four wheels using Romania’s toll motorways and national roads must have a valid vignette, with motorcycles exempt from the requirement. A separate vignette is not normally needed for trailers or caravans, as they are covered by the towing vehicle’s vignette, but you must ensure the correct vehicle category is chosen if the combined permissible weight of vehicle and trailer exceeds 3.5 tonnes.
How long is the Romania vignette valid for?
It is possible to purchase a Romania electronic vignette with a validity of 1 day, 7 days, 10 days, 30 days, 90 days or 1 year.
