About the Slovenia vignette

The Slovenia vignette (also known as E-Vinjeta) is mandatory for all vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes traveling on certain motorways in Slovenia.

The e-vignette is electronically linked to your vehicle’s license plate number, and unlike the physical sticker does not need to be affixed to your windshield. This system allows you to purchase your vignette online from anywhere in the world and begin using Slovenian toll motorways immediately upon confirmation of registration.

Why you need a vignette for Slovenia

Driving on Slovenian toll roads without a valid vignette is illegal and results in significant penalties.

All motor vehicles and trailers weighing up to 3.5 tonnes must purchase a valid vignette when using toll roads in Slovenia. This requirement applies equally to Slovenian residents and foreign visitors, including tourists, business travelers, and anyone transiting through Slovenia.

How long is the Slovenian vignette valid for?

The e-vignette can be purchased for a week, month or a year. You can choose the start date.

A 6 month vignette is available for motorcycles.

The vignette is valid up to 23:59 on the last day of the validity period.

Which vehicles need a vignette in Slovenia?

Cars up to 3.5t need a vignette, and this is split into two categories:

  1. Vehicles up to 3.5t with the height up to 1.3 m above the front axle (ie cars) and caravans regardless the height – these are called Category 2A.
  2. Vehicles up to 3.5t with the height of 1.3 m above the front axle (ie vans) – these are called Category 2B.

Motorcycles also require a vignette – these are called Category 1.

Vehicles with a total maximum authorised weight above 3.5t is made via the DarsGo toll transponder unit that needs to be fixed to the inside of the windscreen. You can purchase that here.

What happens if you don't have a valid vignette in Slovenia?

Driving without a valid vignette on Slovenian motorways and expressways is illegal and strictly enforced through cameras, police checks, and toll patrols. Offenders face immediate fines starting at €300, which can rise to €800 depending on circumstances like incorrect vehicle registration or vignette misuse. A 50% discount applies if paid within 7-8 days, but authorities may retain your ID or license until payment, and repeat violations could lead to driving bans.

How long does the vignette take to arrive?

Once you place your order on our website the e-vignette will be delivered to you via email within a few hours, usually on the same day.

Do I need a sticker?

No. If you order an e-vignette your number plate will be registered on the Slovenian system and it is not necessary to display anything in your vehicle. You will receive an email confirmation however that does not need to be printed.
