This vignette is required by Swiss law to be purchased before you can drive on motorways in Switzerland.

You don’t need to display any physical documentation or sticker on your vehicle. The digital registration linked to your license plate serves as proof of payment, however, it’s recommended to keep your email confirmation accessible in case of questions.

This brings the total penalty to CHF 240—six times the cost of simply purchasing the vignette in advance.​

Which vehicles need a Swiss Vignette?
The Swiss e-vignette is mandatory for all motor vehicles and trailers with a maximum total weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, including:​
- Cars and passenger vehicles: All private automobiles regardless of size or fuel type​
- Motorcycles: Two-wheeled vehicles using motorways require their own vignette​
- Campervans and motorhomes: Recreational vehicles under 3.5 tonnes​
- Delivery vans: Light commercial vehicles up to the weight limit​
- Trailers and caravans: Each trailer requires its own separate vignette, even when towed by a vehicle that already has one​

Important note on trailers: If you’re towing a caravan or trailer, you must purchase an additional e-vignette specifically for the trailer.
Heavy Vehicles Over 3.5 Tonnes:
Vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes do not use the vignette system. Instead, they are subject to Switzerland’s Heavy Vehicle Fee (LSVA – Leistungsabhängige Schwerverkehrsabgabe), which is calculated based on vehicle weight and distance traveled.
How much does the Swiss e-Vignette cost?
The official price for the Swiss e-vignette is CHF 40 (Swiss Francs). This is the same price as the adhesive vignette sticker.​

- Munt la Schera Tunnel: Also subject to additional toll charges
What if I have a private number plate?
The Swiss Vignette is linked to your number plate.
If you transfer the number plate to a new vehicle the e-Vignette automatically transfers and remains valid for the new vehicle.
